5 Mistakes That People Commit While Brushing Teeth

Everybody wants to have beautiful smile and our teeth play a vital role in making our smile beautiful. It is important to keep your teeth healthy and brush them well. While we brush, we forget some important things that make big difference. not brushing for long, brushing too often, etc are some common mistakes that people commit. Here are some mistakes that people make and should be avoided while brushing your teeth:

1. Starting with the same place every time

It has been observed by dentists that some people start brushing the same area of their mouth repeatedly. It is recommended to start in a different place so that you don’t feel lazy in that same area. It is because by the time we reach the other chore levels of our mouth, we get bored with brushing and don’t pay much attention to that.

2. Avoiding inner surface of tooth

It is that inner area of your teeth where your tongue presses against. The plaque is really important to remove and we always forget to remove the inner plaque and only pay attention to the outer plaque. As per dentists, the most important and commonly skipped area is the inner surface of your incisors i.e. your front teeth.

3. Not following up with the rinse

Bacteria occur more on an un-rinsed toothbrush. Laurence Rifkin, DDS, a dentist in Beverly Hills, Calif, says that if you leave your brush un-rinsed, then you have to take the old bacteria again in your mouth as you start brushing.

4. Not letting the toothbrush dry

If you are leaving your toothbrush wet and that remains wet all the time is likely to cultivate more bacteria. The bristles of the toothbrush get out of shape that gives more area to bacteria. It is recommended to shake your toothbrush after you rinse it and then cover it with a cap.

5. Not changing your toothbrush for long

The American Dental Association recommends getting a new brush every three or four months or even sooner if the bristles look frayed. As per dentists, it is advised to change your toothbrush once the bristles of toothbrush lose their normal flexibility and start to break apart. Pay more attention to bristles rather than time period.
