Food Additives That You Should Avoid
Sometimes
the food that we eat is full of additives to preserve it. But when we
analyze the cons and pros of these additives, we find that the
disadvantages overshadow the advantages of these additives. Here are the
top 5 additives which made to our list and should be avoided:
1. Olestra
Olestra
is used as a fat substitute in the chips that we eat. It is not easily
digestible in the body. It also causes diarrhea, stomach cramps,
flatulence, and sometimes these symptoms can be very harmful for your
body. The Center for Science in the Public Interest has categorized
olestra an unsafe product and advised to avoid it.
2. Artificial Sweeteners
We have
many natural sweeteners that add sugar in our body, then why to go for
artificial sweeteners? As these sweeteners are not from the nature, they
are full of chemicals and there has not been an appropriate count of
such sweeteners that should be consumed. These are found in “sugar free
foods”, “diet products” and “light version of products”.
3. Nitrites
We
all love to have hot dogs, but the bright red color that appears on the
food is a sign of nitrites. Use on nitrites has been linked with
cancer. It is better to avoid the products that contain nitrites like
bacon, cured meats, sausage, ham and smoked fish.
4. Artificial Food Coloring
Artificial
coloring is used to add colors to your food prodcts in order to make
them visibly appealing. These artificial colors are so harmful that they
are linked with cancer, allergic reactions and hyperactivity in
children. These colors are found in high-calorie processed foods which
contain few nutrients. It is advised not to go too much for such
products which contain artificial coloring.
5. Sulfites
Sulfites
are used in the wine in order to preserve the wine as it ages. While
sulfites are considered as the most “safe”, they are linked wit
sensitivities that can develop at any time of your lifetime and can harm
you from itchy skin to not being able to breathe properly.
