Tips For Healthy Hair

Gone are those times when women used to have thick, shiny, long locks of hair. The current lifestyle patterns have made the once treasured asset of a lady into  something  unmanageable. Hair loss, frizz, dandruff, split ends …here goes the complaints of a typical urban woman.

But we can look to the past and bring forth the best of what we have. Here are some easy ways by which you can take care of your tresses:

1)EAT HEALTHY,LIVE HEALTHY

Like every other part of your body,a healthy  balanced  diet is essential for the natural health of your hair too.The nutrients we consume will fortify the hair follicles from which a hair strand grows.Healthier the follicles, healthier will be the hair.A hair strand is mostly built of proteins like keratin. So proteins are an essential requirement for the wellness of your hair.Foods like salmon(rich in protein and vit.D),walnuts(has biotin and vit.E which protects cells from DNA damage),oysters(has zinc, lack of which lead to hair loss) etc. are a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids which our body is unable to synthesize and also make up about 3% of a hair shaft.

2)GET RID OF SPLIT ENDS

Split ends also called ‘schizotrichia’ is the fraying of hair shaft due to excessive heat and mechanical stress like pulling a comb forcefully through the tangled hair and excessive combing. There is no remedy for split ends except for trimming the affected hair atleast every 6-10 weeks. This will keep the hair even and healthy.

3)KEEP YOUR HAIR CLEAN

Your hair too desires cleanliness and hygiene. So don’t forget to clean it atleast a twice a week using a shampoo and conditioner with warm or cold water.Soak the hair first.Massage the scalp. Petrissage is a scalp massaging technique to stimulate blood flow, hence encouraging healthy hair and scalp.Rinse the hair. It’s important to ensure no shampoo  residue remains as this could dry out the scalp.Apply conditioner  concentrating along the length and ends of the hair. Never use a comb in the shower since it can pull out the weak wet hair. Rinse again with cold water and thoroughly dry.

4)CUT DOWN HEAT STYLING

Heat styling has become the current trend among people. They never realize how much damage is brought just by that.Excess use of chemical treatments  for rebonding, straightening, perming  etc. especially those containing ammonia and peroxides significantly damages the hair cuticle making it more prone for frizz and breakage.Heating also dries out the hair and gives it a burnt appearance which is totally unsightly. There are many heat defensive styling  sprays available in the market. But nothing actually completely does what it claims. So BEWARE.

5)BE CAREFUL WITH COMBING YOUR HAIR

Check your hair for any major knots or tangles; these are best untangled by gentle fingers rather than the harsh teeth of combs. Untangle these, but be gentle; don't tear at your hair. Make long, even strokes so as to avoid damaging your locks. Now use a wide toothed comb and gently work up from bottom.Combing is also beneficial since it brings out natural oils and thus gives hair its inherent lustre.

6)GET HYDRATED

Last but not the least, replenish your hair cells with plenty of water.
Let your hair shine!!!
