5 Food Additives That You Should Avoid 

Sometimes the food that we eat is full of additives to preserve it. But when we analyze the cons and pros of these additives, we find that the disadvantages overshadow the advantages of these additives. Here are the top 5 additives which made to our list and should be avoided: 

1. Olestra 

Olestra is used as a fat substitute in the chips that we eat. It is not easily digestible in the body. It also causes diarrhea, stomach cramps, flatulence, and sometimes these symptoms can be very harmful for your body. The Center for Science in the Public Interest has categorized olestra an unsafe product and advised to avoid it. 

 2. Artificial Sweeteners 

We have many natural sweeteners that add sugar in our body, then why to go for artificial sweeteners? As these sweeteners are not from the nature, they are full of chemicals and there has not been an appropriate count of such sweeteners that should be consumed. These are found in “sugar free foods”, “diet products” and “light version of products”. 

3. Nitrites 

We all love to have hot dogs, but the bright red color that appears on the food is a sign of nitrites. Use on nitrites has been linked with cancer. It is better to avoid the products that contain nitrites like bacon, cured meats, sausage, ham and smoked fish. 

4. Artificial Food Coloring 

Artificial coloring is used to add colors to your food prodcts in order to make them visibly appealing. These artificial colors are so harmful that they are linked with cancer, allergic reactions and hyperactivity in children. These colors are found in high-calorie processed foods which contain few nutrients. It is advised not to go too much for such products which contain artificial coloring. 

5. Sulfites 

Sulfites are used in the wine in order to preserve the wine as it ages. While sulfites are considered as the most “safe”, they are linked wit sensitivities that can develop at any time of your lifetime and can harm you from itchy skin to not being able to breathe properly.
