Top 10 Myths About Mainstream Health Claims

So many myths have been promoted as truth for years, so separating health facts from fallacies can be quite complicated. Here are some of the myths about various mainstream health issues that people continue to trust them as truth.  



1. Saturated fats and cholesterol are one of the main reasons for heart attack 
Mostly people think that saturated fat and cholesterol have adverse effects on their health and so are not good to have them. There has been no scientific evidence which shows that they cause heart attack. Rather, as per studies, animal and vegetable saturated fats are actually good for health as they contain nutrients and vitamins which aid in the production of new cells and hormones necessary for body to function properly. 

2. Eating saturated fat will lead to weight gain and obesity 
It is merely a myth that eating saturated fat leads to weight gain. However, replacing saturated fats with trans-fat can help in obesity, diabetes and heart diseases. Regular exercise and excess sugar in diet can be the possible reasons for weight gain and chronic heart disease. 

3. Soy is healthy food and can enhance your diet 
Unfermented soy can cause breast cancer and other diseases as it contains plan estrogens. It is responsible for other major health issues like malnutrition, thyroid problems, digestive disorders, reproductive disorders or more. Only organic soy and properly fermented soy can be helpful to you. 

4. Eggs contain unhealthy cholesterol that can cause heart problems 
If eaten in moderate quantity, eggs do not increase the cholesterol levels or cause heart attack. On the other hand, eating eggs help you improving your diet and give you ample amount of require nutrition. 

5. Mild exercise and a moderate active lifestyle will keep you unhealthy and fit 
Although mild exercises are good, these are not sufficient for your total fitness. Your body needs to do some vigorous exercises in order to get your heart pumped, increase blood circulation and strengthen your bones. Vigorous exercises also help improving motor skills and give you the energy to perform you’re your chores at top capacity. 

6. Microwave cooking leaks radiation compounds into your food 
Microwave cooking is no different from other cooking method which involves heat. It does not release any compounds. The only thing that you should keep in your mind is to avoid plastic containers while using microwave which can be harmful. Go for only microwave containers to cook food in microwave. 

7. Drinking milk when you have cold will produce more phlegm 
Recent experiments of giving milk to cold patients did not help them and had no effect in the production of phlegm, coughs and congestion. Thus, it is just a myth about milk. 

8. To reduce back pain, it’s important to sleep on a very firm mattress. 
If your mattresses are too firm, then it may lead to discomfort in your shoulders, hips and back. Therefore, using firm mattresses is not a good idea. You can go for medium-firm mattresses as it will help giving you better support and comfortable sleep. 

9. Cold weather causes colds and flues 
Contrary to this, cold weather doesn’t cause cold and flues. These are caused due to viruses in the environment. However, cold can increase the spread of germs of cold. 

10. Reading in dim or subdued lighting damages your eyes 
As per a research conducted in University Of Indiana School Of Medicine, it is not true that reading in dim light damages your eyes. It just causes temporary eye strain or soreness, not permanent.
