Facts about Sneezing
Interesting Facts about Sneezing
People
usually sneeze more than once at one time (generally they sneeze about
three times). They sneeze after peculiar moments like after exercising,
plucking their eyebrows, in the sunshine, poking nose, or after sex.
People also sneeze at odd times and its not their hand to control it.
Here are some interesting facts about sneezing:
1. Sneeze starts in your nerves
Neil
kao, MD, an allergy and asthma specialist at the Allergic Disease and
Asthma Center in Greenville, S.C. says that “Sneeze starts in your
nerves”. The signals of sneeze travel through nerves and may take
slightly different paths to and from your brain which results in
different sneezing scenarios from person to person.
"It's a nerve transmission that tells your brain something is in your
nose that needs to come out," Kao tells WebMD.
2. Sneeze helps keeping your body safe
"Sneezing
is an important part of the immune process, helping to keep us healthy
and sniffle-free" Kao says. Sneeze clears the bacteria and viruses in
your nose and protects your body. So if you are sneezing, it means you
are clearing off your nose.
3. We don’t sneeze while we sleep
You must
not have noticed anybody sneezing while sleeping. Our sneezing nerves
also sleep while we sleep. Therefore, we can not sneeze while we sleep.
4. How to stop a sneeze
"Try
breathing through your mouth and pinching the end of your nose," Kao
says. This fact is not scientifically proven though. Also we should not
try to stop our sneeze as this may affect your health adversely.
5. Bless You Trend
Many
people say bless you after they hear somebody sneeze. "A post-sneeze
blessing stems from the ancient belief that sneezing is a near-death
experience, and that a blessing will prevent your soul or sneeze from
escaping your body and will deter the devil from entering in," Wood
says.
6. Intimacy can trigger your sneeze
You must
have noticed that you sneeze more often after your intercourse. It is
believed that stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system fires
off signals in some people to enjoy the sex, but to sneeze when it’s
done.
7. Speed of sneeze
Sneezes
travel at the speed of about 100 miles per hour. It is also found that
sneezing can spread 100,000germs in the air. So don’t forget to cover
your mouth when you sneeze in the crowd as this may affect the health of
other people around you.
