Trying to conceive?

Here are the top foods you must eat to help ensure fertility. The diet of the couple plays an important role in determining fertility. The healthiest and safest way of enhancing fertility is with foods.
To optimize fertility the couple should start preparing their bodies at least 3 months before trying to conceive. Including these foods that aid fertility can benefit a woman who is trying to get pregnant:
  1. Bananas – Bananas increase production of sperm and fertility. Studies have shown that eating a banana every three days can improve male fertility. The content of magnesium in it can stimulate the production of more sperm cells. Banana is found to be rich in bromelain an enzyme that has been linked to increased male libido and increased vitality.
  2. Nuts – they are rich in omega 3 fatty acid. These are the fats that are essentially good for our health. In women these foods promote ovulation. They also improve the quality of the uterus by increasing the blood flow to the reproductive organs. In men the Omega 3s are important for production of sperm and to make them healthier. Other foods rich in these fatty acids are fish oil, flax seed oil, salmon.
  3. Beans – Rich in potassium, magnesium, and protein, beans are an excellent fertility enhancer.
  4. Whole Grains (wheat, rye and oats): Whole grains are filled with fiber, important vitamins, and immune supporting properties. Fiber helps to regulate the blood sugar levels. This in turn helps to reduce fertility issues such as PCOS, immunological issues, and promotes healthy hormonal balance. When you’re trying to conceive, always choose dark bread over light, brown rice over white, and whole wheat pasta over white.
  5. Whole milk and full-fat yogurt – One or two daily servings of whole milk or whole milk products protect against ovulatory infertility.
  6. Leafy Greens – Spinach, broccoli, peppers and lettuce are rich in folic acid which helps improve ovulation in women. In men, it helps make healthier sperm and reduce the chances of genetic problems in the baby. These superfoods offer an amazing amount of magnesium, calcium and potassium.
  7. Yams – they are a great food for fertility; rich in folates, beta-carotene, Vitamin C and B6.  Yams can stimulate the ovaries to release eggs, and even more than one egg in each cycle.
  8. Flavanoid rich foods (blueberries, grapes, oranges, peaches) – Eating a diet rich in flavanoids can help protect the egg and sperm cells from free radicals.
  9. More water, No alcohol – Water keeps you hydrated, which is important for general good health and fertility. Either of the partner consuming alcohol is a strict no no. Alcohol impairs fertility in both men and women.
So how will you be changing your diet? Which foods you think are the hardest to incorporate in your meal plan?
